New bamboo hunting quiver
« on: September 25, 2013, 11:43:44 am »
Once I got my hunting arrows finished I realized that my hunting quiver wasn't going to work with the stone points.  I don't do any stalking, just stand hunting so I needed something that I could hang in the tree beside me and allow quick and quiet access to a second arrow if needed.  This is what I came up with.  It's a piece of bamboo, some fuel line, an old belt, some leather, and artificial sinew for the stitching.  I wanted to use something more natural than fuel line but I couldn't make anything that would grip the arrows good enough.  I tried using heavy leather but they would slide up and down.  The fuel line grips them tight and its easy to remove them.  I stitched up some leather under the points and feathers to keep it quiet when pulling an arrow out.  I don't think I'll need covers over the points now.  They don't touch and lay pretty close to the bamboo.  I was working on this at the Scottsburg shoot and Bowtarist suggested sealing the ends and coating the inside of the bamboo to hold liquid.  I think he said it might hold around 4 cans of PBR   ;D   Seriously though, some ideas were to keep a field point or blunt arrow in it or some supplies like an extra string, fire starting kit, or deer jerky.  You could pack quite a bit of gear inside of it.

I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

Very cool Clint. I really like the minimalistic design.

That came out great Bud!!  Awesome Job as always!!  I think it might hold about 4 cans of PBR, but I don't drink in a tree stand...I also don't do a lot of evening hunting either.  ;) dp

Quite nice! I like idea of keeping stuff inside, but wonder about how easy it would be to get some of it out.

If you have to pull the trigger, is it really archery?

The only problem I can see with the whole sha-bang is the possibility of coons licking on them kool aid feathers you made up.

That's why you keep a blunt tipped arrow inside.  Or in your case you could pack it full of marshmallows and hand feed them since you like them so much  ;D
