Xmas Bow Set for my nephew
« on: December 03, 2007, 05:52:02 pm »
Heres a little something I built for my 5 year old nephew.

Bow is a maple stave of unknown type it was too short for a full sized bow. 45" NTN pulling 18# @19", buff horn tip overlays,
stained tips with thread wraps, leather rest with hemp cordage I stained black. Cooked in a bit of reflex lost most of it but I pulled this little tyke
to 21" quite a few times, wanted to make sure it would hold together. Did a bit of art work on it also.

Quiver is made with one of those golf bag tubes for clubs, wrapped with hemp cordage, I coated the cord with spar varnish. The fur collar is supposed to be seal fur
the guy that gave it to me said it come from his great grandmothers coat, so who knows but it sure is glossy.

Set of three red osier shoot shafts with 5/16" 100 grain tips, the arra's wiegh in at 260-270 grains.

I was surprised with how snappy this guy shoots! I will get some pics of my nephew with it at Christmas.

Merry Christmas Everyone :)

Take the advice given to Ralphy in that seasonal classic "A Christmas Story":  "You'll shoot your eye out kid".  ;D Better send it to me for his ocular health.   8)

Thanks guys, I had more fun making this bow than any other. Seems like the ones I give away I enjoy more than the ones for my self ;D

BTW the bracer is made with two pieces of leather glued together with a piece of plastic in between and I have a glove on order from 3 Rivers to complete the set.

The unwilling dog posing with the set is Butchie or as I call him Lumpy, tried to get the other one in the pic but he's the high strung type ;D

If you have to pull the trigger, is it really archery?

Uncle Dana, I have been very good. :)

That is a beautiful set! Really fine work all the way around. The snow is the only thing I don't like. If you don't know yet, I loath winter weather.
