Way to run against the herd Pearl. You wouldnt split that stave unless you had a once in a million hunt and you HAD to use a takedown or you couldnt go ,i get what your saying but really.? Lol

Really. If selling staves isn't your intent then what's the difference if he cuts it and gets the bow he wants from that wood. The value of billets compared to staves is nothing. It seems the folks that wouldn't cut it are concerned of its value. It has no value if its not being sold and he didn't buy it to begin with. Its value lies in the bow he wants from it.

Didnt read that into it (value uncut as opposed to cut) its a near perfect stave,if ya cut into billets and messit up youve lost alot, just make it into a bow as is and mess it up, you might just salvage a good looking weaker bow,, thats all i was getting at. Not trolling at all.

i would just make the bow you want to make from it. either way whether its one single piece or a takedown  your gona end up with a bow.

I'd leave it full length.  My question is, what makes you think the sapwood needs thinning? Looks perfect to me.  I wouldn't risk creating a weakness by reducing sapwood that's already as thin as that.  Can't be more than 1/2" can it?

this seems to have turned into a mater of what it is worth if you had to buy it, worth is subjective to whoever has possesion of an object, if its yours and you really want to make it a t/d then its worth it, it is just a pc of wood, a very nice pc of wood but still just wood

Nope!! A good set of billets are easier to find and cheaper than a nice full stave like that one.
