1. Anniversary bow: Elm longbow 66/28 (No. 34)

I joined this forum exactly a year ago, so this bow is something like an anniversary posting.
This is bow number 33 within this year.
As promised in the last thread (golden chain tree 33/28) I took out one of the cleanest staves I could find in my pile. This is red elm harvested in early summer, so it has very nice early wood on the back. Lots of little warts are on the back and matching little pin knots on the belly – looking like pepper. A beautiful piece of wood.
I have dyed the early wood with brown and black, when dry polished with steel wool until furrow and warts came out nicely. It was a joy to work on this stave. A simpl straight classy bow come out. Only one single flow from a dead branch is on one side of the upper limb, but caused no problem.
The overlays are water buffalo, the inlayed arrow pass is a sanded down bronze broadhead with a filling of black stone powder / epoxi mixture.
The bow is 70,5” long ntn.
The bow is shot in, no shock, shoots like a dream – one of my new favs.
Enjoy!

Great work Simon. I really like the way you polished the stain with steal wool, it made the grain pop out like crazy. I might have to borrow that technique
. Classy and beautiful.

You are the King of Funk! As in funky staves and bows! Have you ever made a boring board bow? Or a multi-lam bow?
