the wood in this bow is a "mottled" juniper. the tree that was growing was split, this half fell away and wos continuing to grow, but was having a rough time, so the wood was slowly dying, as a result, the wood has heartwood and sapwood mixed throughout, with a thin layer of sapwood on the outside. I left about 1/4" 0r less of the sapwood on the back. the lettering on the top limb says "choot em". and on the bottom limb says: "vision quest" as this is my attempt to harvest a trophy quality animal with all primitive tackle. although any game taken this way is special, I would like to get a large mule deer buck or bull elk with all primitive tackle. dont know how many years I have left to hunt so I am trying to get my opus. soon, all I will have are memories, but what a fantastic trip this has been.
