New osage hunting bow
« on: August 27, 2013, 10:26:13 pm »
I started on this bow at the Classic this spring.  I took it from a stave to low brace the first day or two and then put it up to visit for the rest of the week.  I used one of Pappy's cauls to reflex and straighten it up.  I finally got some other projects done and was able to finish it up.  Its 63" long and 50# @25".  It holds some nice reflex even after I've shot it a bunch.  It has a couple pin knots on the edge of one limb.  The tips are water buffalo horn.  I finished it up a couple days before a bow shoot so I put 5 layers of spray shellac on it for a quick finish.  I wanted to cut down on the shine so I coated it with a thin layer of TB3 rubbed on with my finger.  That's the first time I have tried that.  I like how it turned out for a quick hunting finish.  I will be using it for deer hunting in just over a month.  This is probably the best performing bow that I have made so far.  It shoots straight and fast.

It was starting to get dark before I got somebody to take the full draw picture.  Its kind of blurry.

I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

Looks like a good one Outlaw. I like the sweep in the outer 1/3 of the limbs and its braced and full draw profiles are sweet as well. Should easily drop any deer, good luck hunting.
I ain't broke but I'm badly bent.

Nothing quite like an Osage self bow with nice clean lines. That one's a beauty.

Great bow Clintster. Those might just be your sexiest tips yet. Your good my friend.
