How do you carry your bow on a dirt bike?
« on: August 26, 2013, 10:32:58 pm »
I was just wondering if you guys had any good ways to do this.  I will be riding my bike in on some backcountry elk hunts next month. Any pictures of ideas or how you guys do it would be appreciated.
Thanks

Yah that's not gonna work JW!  The trails I'm riding are barely as wide as my bike. I thought maybe someone had a good scabbard idea.

Best bet might be a short bow converted to a takedown.  For example, 52" sinew backed osage with a takedown handle.  If tillered well, it can handle a 26" draw.  The bow when taken down wouldn't be much longer than your arrows and could be stowed in a larger diameter quiver with the arrows.  Maybe partition off the quiver like they do with golf bags to keep the heavier bow limbs from dinging up the arrows too badly.

You don't.  You ride in with a half pound of salt and pepper, a skillet and a 50 lb sack of potatoes.  When you run outa elk, you ride back out.

We bone them out and ride the meat out in packs. Usually two trips with two guys.
Deer we quarter and haul the whole thing out on one bike.

Make your self a bow sock or buy one with an adjustable strap depending on how long your bow is will determine how well that works but its about the only option

A scabbard on the front fork, you WA.tt to be able to see it, a rifle scabbard will work
failure is an option, everyone fails, it's how you handle it that matters.

How about a plains style quiver?  Just rotate it under your arm in the tight spaces!  That is what I use on my horse and mule rides into the high country and some of those places are the same type of trails that you describe!  Joe

I'd make a tube that attaches to the top frame bar from the forks back under the seat and beyond and put the bow in the tube.
