Sinew? Hide glue?
« on: August 25, 2013, 02:15:57 pm »
I need some sinew and hide glue. And instructions! Lol

I don't have a whole lot in trade. I have some different kinds of wood for knife handles or over lays. PM me if interested. I appreciate it guys

Thanks a lot - Bruce

P.S. - preferably processed because I don't know how to do that either. I know it takes a lot to process good sinew and I'm willing to figure something else to make it even. I really wanna out my all in this bow to make it work. And with everyone's help and advice maybe I can swing it. Thanks again

Blaflair, go to the grocery store and buy Knox unflavored gelatine. It is basically food grade hide glue and works well with sinew. It is cheap too.
The sinew I have already has a project planned for it.

Bruce, what you need is two strips of rawhide and some Knox gelatin or Tight Bond glue for what you need. You're just protecting the integrity of some pin knots.

Would I be able to put skins on it? If I get it to that point I'm putting my all in! I'm trying to make the bow I see in my head. Lol I know chances of failure are high. But I'm confident if I go slow I can pull it off hopefully. Would think leather instead of rawhide work? I have that?

Not leather, use rawhide, And, yes, you can put snake skins over rawhide or paint it.

Trade someone on this site for rawhide, (deer or goat) or buy it from Three Rivers.

Blaflair, if you decide to go pet store route you're gonna need to get one 16"-18" rawhide bone and it costs about $20. I've used it before and it works well but it's hit or miss. You might get lucky and get a good enough bone to back several bows or you might not and it could have a ton of wholes in it when you unroll it. But usually you'll get enough to back at least a single bow. Good luck

Get your rawhide from Carson at Echo Archery, good quality thin rawhide.  You can't beat it for the quality and price.  Plus you are supporting a good contributing member of this site.
