thanks much guys.   Roger, I hang my head in shame  :-[  I used artificial sinew like you did cuz I knew it would stretch and not break.  I wanted to make it totally abo, but I knew it was going to be hours upon hours with good thread...  just wasn't up for raffia or yucca thread to be constantly replacing.

Yeah I use art sinue because it is not going to rot down here. I was thinking if you could get so long fibers out of a century plant leaf it might work.
thanks

That would be perfect!  And just to give it that finished look, how about a pinecone on top?

Well now I have to make one.... just gadda figure out where in the to do list this hat falls...

Now about that swimmy thing you have there.... I love shark fishing. I used to live in Tampa and fished all the time. More than I worked even. I bet that hammer head put up one hellova fight! what did you catch him on? How did he taste?

yeah a pinecone on top like a tassel would finish it off nicely!

Those little bonnetheads don't fight great, just like a redfish.  The blacktips and spinners are the good fighters, they pull drag and usually give an air show.  They bonnets taste good, but again the blacktips are where it's at, they taste the best in my opinion too.

Leave it up to you to make a pine needle hat Ryan! Pretty cool project I must say.
