Tip of the ice cube...
« on: July 28, 2013, 12:46:09 am »
Here's a little teaser of the 2013 PA Trade Bow I am desperately trying to get finished.  Finish.  There's that @#$%%^-ing word again.  Gaah!  Yeah, still struggling with getting the shellac finish to lay down in an acceptable manner.

So, I will show just the tips.  I am not terrifically proud of them, but I was running out of time and they are what they are.  There was some innovation and more than just a dose of orneriness in choice of material.  Other than iowabow, nobody knows what the white stuff is in the multi-layer tips.  Sssssssh! It's a secret.  A dirty little secret.  A dirty, filthy little secret.

Do I make you randy?

I was gonna say that PVC is a nice contrast against the black in the horn, but you know what happens when we assume.   >:D

Tip looks fantastic.  That extra-long overlay must have been a beast to get a true edge on.

Never thought of PVC, gonna save that for later!

Yeah, the extra long overlays are a pain in the tuckus.  They didn't start as overlong, but I cannot seem to get them to go straight across a limb to save my butt.  So, this was a case of diddling it to death.

Looks 10x better than the crude tips I always put on my bows JW. Nicely shaped and polished there, I'd be real happy
if any of mine ever came out looking that good.
I ain't broke but I'm badly bent.

For a nice easy ,flawless shellac finish, look into French polish techniques. It may just save your sanity!

Nice lookin' tips there, JW.  Piano keys would also be my guess.  I too have a bucket full of them, just waiting for a worthy project.
