Pics of my new bow
« on: November 22, 2007, 07:31:57 pm »
Finally I am able to post some fics of my first bow that i made. It is a selfbow of hickory, its 72 inches long. It is 17/8 wide to mide limb tapering to 1/2 inch nocks. It pull 56 pounds at 30 inches And follows the string by about 1 1/2  inches. Like I stated before I think after breaking it in the bottom limb started bending a little more than the top. But I just left it alone and learned from the experience.

If you have to pull the trigger, is it really archery?

A classically beautiful bow. Well done.
With a fine osage selfbow, my elkhide quiver filled with cedar arrows fletched with turkey, and with the invitation of the forest, I am about as happy as a man can be.

Well done  ;D My first one took about twice that much set and is full of compression fractures.  If you can stand to loose a pound or two, you could always give that upper limb a few more scrapes. I often have to come back and touch up the tiller on mine after shooting them in. Of course if it shoots good, your sometimes better off to leave well enough alone.
Be thankfull for all you have, because no matter how bad you think it is...it can always be worse.

Good job.  I've got two in the works and I can only hope mine turn out as well.

Nothing to be ashamed of for a first bow you outdid most folks. My first bow came in at about 10# and
had more hinges than a door ;D Very well done.

Looks to me like you did an excellent job, especially for your first one. My first bow became an involuntary takedown  :)
