Pedernales Point Made From High Grade Georgetown Flint
« on: July 07, 2013, 12:16:08 pm »
Yesterday I was fortunate enough to receive a gift of some raw, high grade Georgetown flint from a quarry in Georgetown.  This stuff came from a depth of about 200 feet and it is SWEET!  It produces the crispest sound I've ever heard when removing a flake...  almost like biting into a juicy, crisp apple.  And when the flakes fall, it sounds like music.   ;D ;D

I knocked out a point pretty quick but I wish I could have spent more time with it.  I've got more...  and I'm saving it for a good day.

The thing about that piece that sticks in my mind is the slick/glossy/glassy homogeneity of the material.  I imagine that is something that helps make it a good stone to work.  Wish I had a week of free time, two pickup loads of this stuff, and a couple of knappers like you, Iowabow, Will H, Tower, Gus, and more to teach me.

Even with all that combined experience and knapping genius, I may still not be able to turn out anything even suitable for driveway fill.

Thank you for the kind words, guys!

There's more to come.  I've got a whole bucket of "waste" flakes I haven't touched yet.   ;D

Very sweet looking point love the glossy shine to it. It just amazes me how you all are able to get your points so thin, mine are thicker than they are wide.
