Made this one for myself. 3" 0-1 tool steel blade, 3.5" handle. The handle is wrapped with jute and epoxy. Hope you like it-

very nice!
bare bones no frills cutter
just the way im startin to like em for myself
0-1 is some good stuff when heat treated and tempered properly
takes a wicked edge and holds it thru quite a bit of abuse

Thanks guys, I'm starting to like knives more than bows.... almost.

Kevin, this is how I did this one-
Normalized, brought it up past critical three times only letting it cool to about 500 between each one and then it cool to room temp.
HT'd, I brought it up to critical and quenched three times and then tempered at 400 for two - two hour cycles. I don't know the RC but all of my files skate on it. It took and so far is keeping a nice edge :)

for normalization and grain reduction and you using 3 reducing heat cycles
wow :o  if the file still skates after 2 temper cycles @ 400 f thats still hard 60 + rc
was it a bear to sharpen?

It took a LONG time to get a nice edge on it, even with using worksharp sharpener. I used it quite a bit today with no noticeable loss in sharpness. I don't know if reducing heat cycles is what I did, it was more like three HTing cycles. All of them were up to critical and then quenched. I'm still learning this stuff so I might not know what I am talking about :)

did ya edge quench or full quench the blade?
any warping?
a reducing heat normalization  involves taking the blade to 1 color past critical and allowing to cool to 900 f +or -
second heat taking to critical heat only let cool to 900 +-
third heat taking to just barelly where a magnet sticks and allow to cool to room temp

do you have the $50 knife shop book?

Full quench in canola oil. No warping as far as I could see. I let it cool to around 500 each time when I was normalizing, guess I did it wrong :)

No I don't have that book, is it a good read? I tend to figure everything out by trial and error mostly error...

not nesarerily wrong.
especially if your blade is staying straight with a full quench
its  hard not to get any warping even with a stock removal blade  and an  edge quench
if your interested in the book
id be happy to loan it to ya for a month or so
