Horn nocks out of hardwood

 I was wondering if anyone has ever made "horn" nocks out of a hardwood like purpleheart, cocobolo, bubinga??   Is it possible?  IF so, does anyone have any pics they can post?

You could do that. Kind of strange looking though - my first bow, I made the nocks out of purple heart, but was never happy with them.

A dark dense piece of ipe would make a great horn style nock, and it would be lighter as well..

I tried turning Cocobola on the lathe but it kept exploding.

sure, go for it!
Never had a prob with the 70# hickory backed, yew.
Nocks were from Paduk, a nice orange compliment to the yew.

Hi,  I haven't got photos to share, but I made an ipe bow several years ago and put on 'horn' nocks out of boxwood.  I think it's a nice color contrast and the nocks are holdling up well.   Ron
