I just use a sharp antler tine to notch. as it wears down I grind it down on the side and it turns in more of a blade shape which still seems to work real well. Notching is the only think I use the tool for so it lasts quite a while.
They are also from spalled off flakes. I ordered a box from the ol interweb and figured I'd make due with whatever came. There were a couple flakes in the box, but mostly it was thick odd shaped spalls, which was ok cuz I was able to spall them into what I was looking for
