Whats legal in your State for arrows/heads (highlights)
« on: May 22, 2013, 04:01:18 pm »
I was thinking this may be interesting to see what the states list as lawful to hunt big game with.

From Washington State DF&WL

Broad head must be unbarbed, at least 7/8” wide with two cutting edges, & completely closed at the back end, (they do not mention arrowhead materials, so stone and bone are in)

It is unlawful to hunt big game with a retractable broadhead.

Arrow must be at least 20” long and have a 6 grain per pound of draw weight. (40lbs draw at 28” min) with a minimum of 300 gr arrow wt. (you do the math Washington didn't)

Happy Hunting!

Ca is 7/8" stone is o.k. and the bow must cast a hunting weight arrow 120 yds

The VT fish and game law digest states that broadheads must be 7/8" wide and the bow must have a draw weight of 35# or more.

Indiana is chert, flint and obsidian points of no specific size or weight. There is a 35lb minimum draw weight on bows to be legal.

Ohio lowered the minimum  broadhead width to 3/4 a couple of years ago.

Don't know about Tennessee, never ask and never been ask in 40 + years of bowhunting I have never had equipment checked, been checked for Lic. and Orange in gun season but they have never ask about my equipment, well once     a warden ask if I really hunt with that stuff. ;) ;D ;D I have heard no barbs/stone is OK and must launch an arrow 100 yards  :-\ guess I should read the regs but the last time I looked it would take a Philadelphia lawyer to understand all of it. :o :-\

In New Brunswick, broadheads must be 20mm (3/4 inch) wide minimum. Also:

Quote
• Arrowheads and arrow shafts or bolts and
bolt shafts used in hunting cannot be
barbed, coated with poison, equipped with
rippers or designed to explode.
• Arrows or bolts tipped with small game field
points may be used while hunting small game.

Not sure what "rippers" are, and no mention of stone or bone points. I wonder if the serations on stone points count as rippers?

Also it is unlawful to possess a bow with a draw weight less than 20kg in a resort of wildlife, even if you aren't hunting.

In Florida it's pretty much anything goes - material wise, bevels, barbs.  Just needs to be 7/8".

A question for people in states that do not allow barbed points:  Does the regs say that applies to bowfishing tackle too?

I just looked up Missouri's regs.  No minimums on draw weight or broadhead size, or what the broadhead is made from.

Patches, in Washington it says no barb for big game, I will have to look to see if we can even bow fish here.
