My new fg bow( Elm Hollow Custom)
« on: May 18, 2013, 11:39:15 pm »
Well this is my fg bow all finished up..I used maple and walnut for the riser,2 heat treated bamboo center lams, dark green back lam, light green belly lam(bag stained with alcohol stain) and IPE tip overlays. To top it all off is a set of rattlesnake skins from Cippy( Thanks buddy)The bowyer(from Elm Hollow Custom Bows) I met last weekend helped me grind down the lams and glue her up..I did all glue and lam clean up, Minor tillering(sanding the limbs and finish work..The bow is 60" tip to tip, pulls 48#@27.It is r/d longbow style and shoots really fast and accurate. In conclusion, would I ever build another glass bow? Probably not..This bow didnt cost me a thing, and was a cool experience....Just not my cup a tea...Enjoy the semi decent pics..Bill

Really nice bow Bill! Those short skins wouldn't have worked on anything else  ;)

As Roy wood say...."I guess its OK"...lol .....good thing the skins cover the glass up,and it doesn't have an obnoxiously huge and "loud" riser to it,and you made it yourself and didn't pay outrageous money for it...so I approve ;)  8)

I like it!  It's a sweet looking bow.  As 'hawk said - the riser's decently sized.  Everything about it pulls together to make a lovely bow!

Next weekend I'll be picking up a Bodnick Quick Stick that I'll be finishing up for myself.  If it turns out a quarter as nice as your bow, I'll be as happy as Porky in poo-poo!!

Very nice curves on that one.  I'm assuming on a bow like this, most of the tillering is done before glueup?  Did you have to build a form just to glue those curves in?

Your "I only tried it once" comments gave me a chuckle.  "And I didn't inhale!" lol  It's ok, we're all friends here, we won't judge!  8)

You did a great job on this bow. I tried one glass lam bow years ago(Bingham) and it broke before I ever got a string on it. That was enough for me.  ;)

Cam..Most of the tillering is done after glue up..similar to a selfbow, only you lightly sand on the sides to adjust tiller.I glued this up at a local bowyers shop,so he already had the forms..

Pretty cool Bill! You can see your heavily influenced selfbow background shining through the glass.
