New Set of Arrows!
« on: May 17, 2013, 08:13:35 pm »
Hey, finished these a couple days ago, nothing too fancy. Just 30" Birch shafts that I recieved in a trade, turkey feather fletching tied on with artificial sinew, and 145gr field points.

I stained from 25" on with Tru-oil Jacobeam stain and burned the shafts at 20". This helps with keeping draw lengths with different bows consistent (Short bows draw just past the burn mark and long bows draw between where the stain starts and the tip)

I shot them a few dozen times yesterday and they worked great. Proper arrow length and decent full length fletching go a long way in accuracy.

These will be my main target arrows for the summer and maybe my hunting arrows if they work well enough.  :)

Pics!

Very nice work, I switched to 145 grain heads for my homemade arrows also

If I worked hard enough, just maybe I might be able to come up with a valid critical remark about those arrows...but that would be a lot of work.  Nope, altogether too much work.   >:D

Doncha just love the natural look of the wood and the natural look of the turkey feathers?  The self nocks always get my vote, too.  Plastic nocks look like a Civil War re-enactor standing in the field of battle with a cell phone against his ear and a 24 oz energy drink can in the other.

Thanks guys. I like the trad look myself.

Yeah, plus if you hit a self nock you can usually just file it down and re cut it.  :)

Self nocks are better than plastic anyway... but they are a bit more work.

Nice arrows!!!

I like the look of the fading dark stain from the point on back.  Nice looking set.

I do know a Civil War re-enactor that has fitted his modern digital camera into a large oak box, added a black drape behind it and mounted it on a tripod.  Ready, steady, wait 30 seconds for historical accuracy, voila! A photo!
