Ayup all,

Have been pushing my luck with this cherry bow. Pin knots, big knots and character. Then add to that 59ntn statics and a stiff handle.
Bit me tonight. Had been shooting this over the weekend and decided due to a little hand shock to narrow the outers. Did so and she let go :( To be honest as said in the title I was asking for it.
Post mortem tension break and a bit of compression too. Didnt help with the pin knots.

Sincere condolences.  I've made so few that each one that blows up still takes a big piece of my soul with it.  Somehow I doubt it gets any easier to lose one as you master this art like you obviously have.  :'(  :'(  :'(

Shame, but we all keep pushing it, it's the thrill of trying the impossible.
No fun in making 8' long 3" wide 35# bows with a 24" draw ::).
It always leaves me down for a day or so, until I pick up the next one.
Keep on keepin' on.

We are all so sorry for your loss, words are just not enough. So young, so beautiful, so thin.

Just what I said to my self after getting married last weekend ;)
There are loads of splinters missing from the belly in the photo above. Really went with a bang.
Like I said I was definitely out for a fight with this one. Kinda like the missus again i suppose.

Yeah it sucks when a bow explodes, but at the same time you learn so much more.

Anyway back in the saddle. Which is funny as I just bought an old saddle for leather

Bowyers confession time... I have always bought in strings as they completely foxed me, besides maybe a rough tiller string. Then Nathan of this parish took the mic some when we met so thought it best to learn. Took an evening and a youtube video which i think was done by one of you lot on here and i cracked it :) Twistedstave.com?
This is an elm static that's pretty much tillered as far as I can see. Bottom limb taking a tiny bit of set so maybe few scrapes up top. Then mass removal at the tips. Pulling 55 at the minute.

See I knew if you could make wood bend like that making strings would be easy for you, you just needed a nudge! Bummer about the break, I had a run of 3 once all in a row, hazel how I hate you hazel! That Elm looks quick too. Congrats on the nuptials by the way, oh and it’s still perishing up here, spring has gone missing!

Thanks bud.
Only ever built two hazel bows, on was pretty nice and shot great, the other failed in compression after shooting in.
Weather the same here mate although no as cold more wet n miserable. Spring has kinda given up again.
When the weather gets a bit better you and Mike will have to pop down and grab some of this elm. Gee beers a fire and a whittle.
