Some Shop Time with Friends
« on: May 04, 2013, 11:21:55 pm »
Spent a nice day with Dave (aka. PortlandFire) and Bryce (aka. PineCone) working on bows. Bryce has a really cool yew stave with amazing character. If he gets a bow out of it, the bow will be a head turner for sure. Dave is working on finishing up his service berry bow so he has plenty of time to practice with it before elk season.  I had a chance to look over some of Bryce’s work – that boy sure has some talent.
Thanks for the great day guys!

That is some character, that bow will be a headturner for sure, and I love the color of that serviceberry bow.  More amazing work to inspire me, thanks guys.

Yep, Bryce has a tiger by the tail with that piece of wood. But I bet he will pull it off.

Good times. That bow's going to be amazing, Bryce. I'm sure you can pull it off and if not then it wasn't meant to be a bow.

If anyone can pull this off, it will be Bryce.  And having Gordon for a mentor doesn't hurt a bit!
Great project guys.  Let the bow wood gods smile on ye Bryce!

Hey good fun Gordo! Thanks for the wax finishing demo, I think I'll give that a try soon.
That serviceberry shoots like a laser beam!
Yeah this stave is a doozy! Thank for the confidence boost but I'm still not sure.
When I got home today these 60 yr old billets checked a little on me but I think I jumped on them just in time.

Hope it turns out :)

Bryce...you better pull that bow off!  That yew was meant for you!  I still can't believe both Keenan and I overlooked that pair of billets when going through that stash!   :'( :'( ;D

Carson, I glued them up full length and was just gonna do a longbow or something but under the bark was knarly check. And after cutting it down the stave is now 61.5 ntn no room for error on this one. eapecially since i have a 28" draw. taking it extraordinarily slow.
