WA Squirrel hunting.

So its my understanding that in Washington state i need only a license to hunt eastern gray squirrels and eastern fox squirrels. There is no limit as far as i know and there is no need for a permit. Do i have this info correct?

  Not sure about WASHINGTON ST. but here in WV. it's 6 a day. And we do have a season.

correct. the native species are off limits but eastern greys and fox squirrels, are year round no limit, in wa. tasty tasty

Also, i should ask, do i need a hunting license? im fine with that if i do, but i want to be sure.

thats a good question. i would suggest a small game license to be on the safe side

So to be sure were talking about the same thing, I've never taken the hunters safety course and so I've never had any type of hunters license. I think i have to take the class and get certified right? That's what I'm talking about when I say hunters license. Now, I know I don't need any tags for them, they are open all year and you have no limits, that's what I know, but that's as far as my knowledge extends.

Definitely take the hunter's safety course, whether it's required legally or not.  It's worth the time and money invested for the knowlege.  The teachers are about the most passionate sportsman you'll find.

Not to mention if you ever plan to hunt big game in a state like CO, you are required to have your hunter's education course ID. Easier just to get it out of the way now.

here is a link to the hunters safety link on WDFW http://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/huntered/classes/basic.php  it is required to have taken one to get a hunting license for big or small game(not sure about squirrels) . Happy Hunting! Ed

Wait...you can hunt squirrel in WA?  Everyone I ever asked said it was a no-go, something about dwindling populations.

Keep in mind shiloh that its ONLY eastern grey and eastern fox squirrels that are legal to hunt. im sure there are one or two more, but the eastern greys are what we have an infestation of! plus they make darn good bow strings!

Okay, thanks for the clarification. I'll study up on what eastern grey/fox squirrels look like and try to find an open weekend.

yeah, i see them EVERYWHERE. they would be an issue if they were any more populated. They were introduced from the east to the west

Yeah, I was just doing some research on wikipedia. Now I've just got to figure out how to distinguish between eastern/western grays, since the latter is illegal to take, haha.
