1st horn bow

That is incredible!  Now you've got to make some arrows with ostrich fletchings and horn arrowhead to go with it!

How did you attach the horn to the riser?

Ostrich fletched arrows would suit it perfect (I had made a nice turkey fletched bamboo shaft with stone point, then one of my pups got ahold of it)  For the riser I had to shape the ends to match the inside of the horn as close as possible. The riser extends into each horn about 4inches

I have an all-consuming fantasy of building one of these bows!

First, I travel to Africa with just my bow making tools and head for the bush.  Once in the bush I make a serviceable bow  and a set of arrows to hunt with.  Tune the arrows to the bow and when it shoots well enough to be an ethical hunt, I find my waterhole and build a brush blind.  From that blind I bide my time patiently until I get the "just right" set of horns to come in.  Slowly I pull full draw and send the arrow home.  The beautiful female gemsbock's heart is roasted over a kindling fire as the guide service begins the process of parcelling out the bush meat for the local tribe that hosted me.  Wiping the grease from my chin and hands, I gather up the horns and my memories and head home to build my gemsbok bow! 

Why the female gemsbok?  Longer and narrower horns, more graceful looking since the bucks wear them down.

That would be one epic hunt , you could propose it to discovery channel see if they would sponsor it
 I was inspired by the old Odyssey movie, and when a friend of mine asked if I could use the horns for anything I jumped on it. I'm really hoping to use this for the next season.

What bow and construction.First I've seen on this site in the last two years at least.Thanks for sharing.That is truly a HORN BOW.I've made a few with wood cores and sinew and found for tillering that 80 grit paper worked about the best for reduction of poundage.Good to see your will found away.Love to just shoot it once.That one should be able to be passed down to your grand childrens' grand children.
