Ill be working on my trade bow today. Not sure what i can get out of it. I have quite a bit of wood to work with, just trying to figure out if i want to make a lever bow or just pyramid style.

go with a pyramid muffin, 1 3/4" at the fades 4" grip, 1 1/2" fades, get the limb thickness down just under 1/2" and you should be in the ball park, 68"ttt and you'll be o.k., Bub

if you start around 2" wide you will end up close to 1 3/4", glue a 8" or 9" pc on for the handle, you can use my build a long, you don't have to use a tablesaw, but all the steps are there

Bubby, that's a great build-along.  The only problem I'm having with it is user error.  1st attempted, I cut into the belly trying to remove the table sawn belly strip.  2nd attempt, after buying a new handsaw, I did the same thing. 3rd attempt I made the limb thickness a full 1/2".  I nick the belly just a wee bit, but after removing the saw marks and the wee nick, I'm still coming in under weight.  GRRR.

I've look for ANOTHER red oak board in the 2 Lowe's near me.  I'm going to 2 more Lowes, tomorrow.  Hopefully, they have a board with the grain needed.

Probably is I had a finer toothed table saw blade I would have made the weight on the 3rd attempt.  Since, I'm having issue cutting out the belly strip with a handsaw, I'm going to stop the table saw cut an inch farther away from the handle and use my bandsaw to finish cutting out to the handle.  And, I'm cutting it at 9/16th" to allow for user error.

I'm off work Thursday and Friday.  If all goes well I'll be shipping my bow out the first of next week.

a suggestion i might make hedge apple. if you are going to use the table saw, leave it around 5/8 inches and then when all's said and done you should wind up with a nice one.
Now for my progress report, ive finished cutting out the pyramid profile and ive glued on the handle riser and a set of tips. Should be ready to work in about 2 hrs.

hedge what draw are you trying to get, those calcs on the build are for a 29" draw if you are going to use a shorter draw you may want to shorten up the bow some, how light are you coming in?

The bow is 64" ntn, 8" handle for 28" @ 45.  Mass is under or right at what it should be now on each of the bows.  I strung the 3rd attempt.  It's about 30#

After a 60 mile round trip and a visit to 2 Lowe's, I found two, 1x4x10 with great grain in the middle sections of each.  Hopely, I want screw these up, too.

one more lesson i just learned... i just had a splinter pop on the bow im working on, i had put glue in it to fix it but it overpowered the glue, so either i sinew it shut or start a new one.

it's up to you, sinew or b-50 or some nice string, wrap it up and soak it in super glue if it is not the sinew
