Knot experts, what say you???
« on: February 11, 2013, 08:24:00 pm »
Ive kinda been wanting to build a bow with a hole in it so I got to digging through my stave pile and found this piece of hickory. I think I can eliminate the knot on the edge of the limb but what do you guys think about the knot in the center of the limb. Is this a good candidate to drill and dig out the rotten wood leaving a hole behind or should I try to find another stave? the stave is fairly straight grained except for around these knots. Its 68" long and the knots are right at midlimb. Ive never tried this before so any and all opinions are appreciated.

Compensate the width there and go for it.
