Primitive Hawthorn Bow

So with wrestling going on i've been too tired to do anything much, thankfully this weekend i finally have time to shoot! I finished this simple bow a while back but never posted it. Today i shot it for the first time in a while and it shoots great. I don't have any kind of finish on it and it's just lightly sanded. The original branch had some pretty bad side-warpage so i tried to bring the limbs in line but unfortunately after a certain point it didn't wanna go any further and the limbs started cracking, so i tried to change it in the handle and then the handle started cracking  >:(  (that's why i wrapped it in thread.) So the string favors my shooting side by like a half inch, but it still shoots good.

The last few days of practice have been seriously intense so my muscles aren't up to what they usually are, so i'm under-drawing the bow about 2 inches. (I put the black tape on the arrow as a reference.)

It's somewhere around 58" ntn, 75/80# @ 23."

Pretty cool looking Zion, if you ever get around to it, I would love to see a video to see how one of you high weight bows 90# or so shoot. They have to pack quite a wallop.

Thanks Jon, yeah they definitely pack a punch, still working on shooting better tho lol. When im less busy i might do that and embarrass myself  ;D

Cool looking bow - and 80# is a hefty pull!  Way too much for this old guy.  I too would love to see some video of it spitting out arrows.

Nice bow Zion. Do you go out of your way to find the least clean stave to make a  bow out of and then make a good bow out of it or is that purely by accident?  ;)

thanks guys! Actually hawthorn usually grows like this so it isn't really out of the ordinary. Believe me i could find ALOT worse lol  :o

Looks like the limbs are bending pretty good. How's your accuracy with 90lbs? Wrestling is an awesome sport, how long have you been at it? Good work!

Thanks Tracy! well my accuracy in general ain't that good lol. But it doesn't really seem to change by weight. Now if i shot the 90# bows all day then by the end of the day my accuracy would suffer, but for a good 3 hrs i'm relatively consistant.

Unfortunately this is only my second year of wrestling, i wish i had started earlier lol. It really is an awesome sport.

Thanks Rob, yeah it doesn't seem like knots really effect hawthorn much, plus they look cool  ;D

Thanks Dictionary, this thing was pretty smooth to make. Once i got the limbs better in line it was practically done. You can expect nice landscape from WA  ;D
