Hey Sir,

I can make March 8-10.
Or possibly another date in March or Early April.
But we'll be prepping for "The Classic" in Mid to Late April so I'll be out for the second half of April.
Should I bring the Spud Guns to this one?

I'll be bringing Tuna for Burlington Knapp In...
Caught a few on a charter out of Venice, LA the end of 2012.
Here's a photo of the small one.

:)

Yes Sir,

One of my favorite fish to Fight and Eat...
This one took about an hour and a half to get to the boat.
The bigger one took about two hours to land.

The real question will be whether to serve it Grilled it or Chicken Fried with Mashed Potatoes and Gravy...
It is Outstanding either way.  :)

In a situation like that, I usually recommend doing it both ways. :)  That way we can assist you in the decision of which way is better. ;D  Nice fish, pictures of the larger one??

I haven't asked the VFD yet, but could you guys (Gus, Knapper and Seider) make it on Mar 15-17?  Don, I'm assuming you can make either date and I think I can as well.  Hoping Patrick can make it too and I haven't talked to Paul yet.

I wonder if strips of wahoo skin taken high off the back would maintain that lovely striped pattern.  I know you would lose the gorgeous colors, but they could be reproduced with a little help from a taxidermist's airbrush work.

You are lucky I wasn't in that boat when the toony-fish were landed.  I'd been in there with a filet knife, chopsticks, pickled ginger and a dab of soysauce!  You'da lost about half that first fish before the deckhands clubbed me senseless!

I hear ha JW...

Normally I cut up the first Tuna that hits the deck for just such a purpose.
But in this case the Captain, "Brandon Ballay" kept me so busy on the fish we barely had time take a breather while icing the fish down.
If my buddy Vern hadn't had presence of mind to make sure his camera was charged up we wouldn't have had any photos to prove our boasts.
My camera died after the second photo.

Unfortunately the colors and patterns fade FAST on these fish.
Unless there is a way you could skin them immediately and put the skins into some sort of preservative that I don't know of...
They Grey out as soon as they die and hit the ice.

The colors Change and Brighten and Fade and Undulate on the fish as they Posture on the Attack.
They come in on the baits "All Lit Up" and "Aggressive"... P!ssed Off.  :)
Its a Joy to Behold.

A friend has video of a sailfish coming in to the bait.  Looks like a blue neon sign on the side of a torpedo at warp speed.  These fish use their color patterns to flash their moods and attitudes.  What beauties.  Thanks for sharing the pics Gus...wish I was there to get a seared tuna steak!
