New ground for me
« on: January 19, 2013, 02:22:45 pm »
Bubby and I where talking the other day about bow builds and such. He told me if I built a horse bow he would send me the hair tassle for the top. Challenge accepted. I didnt spend much more than 5 minutes getting and idea of what a horse bow is. So if my depiction isnt to scale, or my layout isnt authentic, my apologies. Im basically going to build a bow that can be easily shot while riding a horse. The stave was a sliver of the King I had laying around. Its 47.5" long and 1 1/4" wide, very solid. I reflexed it to 3.5" and slightly turned the tips for now. I shredded some back sinew, with more to come. My plan is 45-46" ntn and somewhere in the 40# @ 24-25" range. Here is what I got done so far this morning.

I'll be watching with interest PD.  Love these little Indian bows.

Nice lookin job so far Pearl. Be sure and post a lot of pics of the tillering process. That bow has the same reflex as a bamboo backed osage I am working on. Never tillered one with reflex before, so I am interested to see how she comes along.

Look'n gooood.  Can't wait to see the progress and finished bow!
Talking trees. What do trees have to talk about, hmm... except the consistency of squirrel droppings?

Clintster maybe you and Steve could full draw that bugger? With a bendy you lose all of 1" of draw due the handle depth.  If it holds up I will bring it to the Classic for you to try out. Im adding 3 full layers of sinew, so the break shouldnt be violent!

How about a plastic barrel and 4 ropes? We can yank on the ropes while they try to shoot? Doubt I will get the sinew down until Monday. The shop is closed for today and I have my new TWIN nieces baptism tomorrow. So cool!

It will be FD for me.  Bring it and you can laugh at my crappy shooting.  I'll bring my 49.5" sinewed osage bow.

And I don't ride horses so you can get that idea out of your head right now.  Maybe I could sit on a cooler in the back of Pappy's utility vehicle and take some full speed drive by shots  ;D

Looks good.
