If its thin enough at the tip dry heat should work fine. I dont think you can get hickory to dry. Its to short to use one of the forms Greg copied from me. you just want to bend up the tips like this elm bow.its only 50"ntn. Its all about string angle with short bows.

I used the forms we had ,just didn't use it all.I bent the last 4 inches of the tips and used dry heat.It seems to have worked and didn't check in the belly witch is what I was worried about.
I don't know if I got quite as much bend as yours Ryan ,but almost.I plan on bracing it this weekend.Looks a lot better.Hope it holds.Do you think i also need to heat treat the belly before
I brace it ? :)

Pappy, I heat treat the belly on pretty much all my bows now. I dont see how it could hurt. Your going to want to pull on that baby on the tillering rack before bracing it. Its really going to raise the draw weight, and change the tiller. Good luck!  ;D

Frank, thank you. I draw about 26.5 to 27" and it pulls about 50# at that length.

Whew - just got back from Yellowstone NP and was treated to Pappy's very nice hickory (re-worked) bow.  Thanks and bookmarked, too!

I took it off the form yesterday and plan on heat treating the belly today.It took a pretty good bent,just hope it is enough.

Got it tillered this weekend .I will have some full draw pictures when I get some one to take them.
Also put on some tip overlays and a set of Carp skins Mickey Lotzs gave me.First time I have used
them and they look pretty cool.It turned out 51@26 so I was pleased with that.Here are a few
pictures and it is coming along and with the skins.Tell what yall think. :)

the mid limbs are a bit too stiff for hickory, It might develop some frets near the fades. otherwise looking good.
Good luck finding it if left lying around in a buch of leaves :D

3 or 4 inches out from the fades ? Ya them carp skins should blend it to about anything. :)

umm.. I'd say that maybe like 20 cm so 8 inches from the fades? it seems to bend some near the fades, but not right from the fades. hard to explain.. Wish I could modify the pic so that you could see what I mean.. how about an unbraced sideprofile in this stage of work? It could be easier to tell when comparing to the unbraced pic. ???

It don't seem to be taking much set now.This is right after it had been out to 25 inches.

In this case I could say that if it works that fine and takes no set to mention, leave it like that. I just told what I saw with the tiller, but it seems that that tiller is good for the bow. well done 8)
