I made a short Hickory a couple of years ago.It shoots good but has some stack and I figured it was because of the length.It is 56 tip to tip and about 54 N-N.It took very little set and shot
really quick,just not real smooth,also I had the grip kind of square in the front and wasn't confortable to hold.I decide to re work it and here is where I started.I have flipped the tips and redone the handle just waiting a day or 2 for it to dry and then I plan on restringing and see how the tiller looks.I steamed it Sat. and got the tips. done.I also plan on putting on some tip overlays.I will keep yall posted.The first is before I started and where is is now.It is 2 in. at the fades to mid limb the tapered to a little less than 3/8 at the tips.Hope she holds.it was 53 @ 26 when I started
that is about what I want it to be.

Looks like a real shooter to me. Are you going to finish it with skins or leave it natural? Nice looking bow!

Now that looks sweet! Not all twisted like that other stuff you been fooling with. I sure hope it works out, I would like to build me one just like that. Please keep us posted!

I am going to let it dry till the weekend and then brace it up and see what I have.It has already been shot so the tiller should be close.Hope it will take some of the stack out of it.It shot
straight and hard but stacked like H#$$.I have enough problem with short drawing,don't
need a bow that stacks.Tracy I may put some skins on it.I have some short Copperheads
just don't know if they are wide enough.

Not trying to discourage you Pappy but I think that little bit of reflex will just pull out. I would have put about a 45 degree bend down at the 3 or 4 inches of the limb tip. Good luck hope it works for you!

I thought it might,never done that to a hickory before.I may try and put more into
it this weekend .Think it will be OK to re steam it ?

For something like that dry heat works better. Looks good though

Snedeker,the fads or only 3/4 in.Couldn't have made them much shorter.I will try dry heat.
I just haven't had much luck with dry heat on Hickory.Maybe I haven't been getting it hot
enough.Ya frank I ant use to this.

Pappy, I think I would use one of the sets of forms we've used to recurve the last 8" or so of the tips. I would be surprised if you can get that kind of curvature out of dry heat with hickory though. If not for the possibility of pulling to much moisture out of the wood, I think I would try steaming again.
