Couple of Florida Stones
« on: December 04, 2012, 10:58:12 am »

I got a couple of pretty points made for hunting. They are both FL native stone. the one on the left is a real nice FL chert from Ocala and the other is a super nice piece of Pasco Agatized Coral. The coral has some awesome colors and a few polyps showing, but the pics make it hard to see how cool it is. I ought to keep the coral point in my collection, but it's too sharp and too perfect of a hunting point not to hunt with it.

Very nice! I've seen that color coral before. The white one sure looks like coral, also.

thanks guys.  Eddie, I was thinking the white one was Coral too, but my friend that gave me the nodule was pretty sure it was just really clean chert. I spalled it out and really thought it might be coral.. I heat treated it all under a fire and then made points. I asked him if he was sure what it was and he says "No I am never really sure!" But he is geologist and says they are all made from the same mineral anyways. silicate.... which yeah I guess he is right.   It doesnt have the shell inclusions that the chert I find has...so yeah maybe it is coral.   You would know more about it than I!

If it's chert I'd love to have some. I've never seen Fl chert get that porcelain gloss with those colors after heat treating, real pretty. :)
