Dels ELB Mended
« on: December 02, 2012, 11:34:26 am »
The ELB with the smashed splice has been rebuilt, it didn't take much re-tillering, but the splice repair was a lot of work.
The pics show full draw grabbed from video hence the poor quality (before I put the grip on).
(BTW my slightly odd stance is because I'm scared of whacking the upper limb on the door frame!)
The grip back and belly shots show the patches. The belly patch is hard to spot, it finishes just near the top and bottom edges of the pic. Both patches are from the same log and I've tried to grain match 'em.

I like the look of it better now as it's really working hard and pulling a nice curve.
Stats:-
72" tip to tip 70 3/4" ntn
~50# at 31"
English Yew
Secret little trick when taking the pic with the arrow plate, I had a little torch (flashlight) shining on the Mother of Pearl for extra highlights... so shhh ;)
This time it's had 107 arrows shot through it at full draw, mind the limbs had already had some exercise from the previous go.
I'm very confident in the bow now and feel it would actually come back another inch!
Del
WARNING! Pleas don't look at the full draw pic for too long, it might go bang! :o ;)

She turned out nice, Del. A fine job, indeed!!

Awesome. Can't believe you fixed it. Beautiful. Gorgeous full draw. The mother of pearl is just phenomenal.

Stunning! There is something about that sharp transition from the toffee heartwood to cream sapwood that gives me the jitters.  Its perfect, and the seamless patches are a testament to some serious skill there!

Yeah, shooting from that long draw was bonkers at first, but I slowly got better and better and by the time I'd shot about 50 through it I was having to aim around my target to avoid smashing arrows. It feels weird with the right hand so far from the face, feels like I'm shootin' from the hip!
