While sitting around for my turn to load my truck, I ended up giving an impromptu knapping demonstration.  Not intentionally though.  I was working down a nice preform minding my own business when I looked up to see a bunch of bored truckdrivers watching me work.  As soon as noticed them the questions started.  I answered the best I could while I set up a platform to remove a step fracture .  I was just getting set to whack it with a bopper when one of asked me what I was making.  I started to answer him while i took my shot at the piece and blew off half the other side of the preform.  So my answer came out, " if all goes well, this will be a ........DAMMIT!!!!!!!"   I went with it and made the other side match.  I cleaned it up a little and decided that I liked it.  So there you go, how the dammit point came to be.  Josh

Darn that is a nice damm point. It you fired that off are someone in anger I bet that they would get you point, dammit. They might be heard saying "dammit that dammit point damm sure hurts"  parrrrrdone my french!!!! But dammit your getting pretty darn good josh.

Lol! I don't recall seeing it in the guide either, so I guess its up to me for an official description.  The dammit points is one of the most common points made today.  They are all shapes, sizes and thicknesses and usually they are decidedly asymmetrical.  The common key to dammit point identification is there location of discovery.  They can almost always be found in a rough circle surrounding a knapping pit at exactly a stones throw distance away.  Sometimes accompanied by boppers, pressure flakers, and anything else that can be thrown.  Usually, the prettier the material or the bigger the dammit point, the more tools and other cast away equipment can be found nearby.
