I've had the last two pop or nearly pop the handle (heard creaking on the last one, so i took the riser off before it popped).  My solution (recommended by folks here) was 1/8" wood laminations in place of one thick riser piece.  Worked like a charm :D
I do want to try the leather like you have done, but just don't have any thick enough.  Looks good, get'r finished up so we can ogle!

Finished up with tillering this morning, and started adding some of the necessities. I just hate how work gets right in the way on a build like this! If I called in sick... Nevermind, I would never dream of doin...  ??? ;D

MMMMM!!! Looking good!! ;)
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

I think Pearl Drums used to say something like, Fades make or break a bow?
"I started developing an eye for those smooth curves as a young man.  Now that my hair is greying and my middle spreading I make bows instead."

Got the skins trimmed up this morning.

And now the handle becomes the tips!

I think that mesquite is gonna go well with the Texas rattlers.

Yep very good tiller bend there. It worked out for ya.I like it.Looks like a lot of your bows I've seen.
I'm tillering a bow now with the same type of handle too. It's a  R/D bendy handle 62" though.I'll have to put leather on the handle too.Might put some on the back of handle too.No skins gonna go on it though.[I don't think anyway].Gotta save my skins for my sinew jobs I'm gonna do this winter.
