Maple / Jatoba ELB
« on: October 14, 2012, 03:03:29 pm »
I've been busy this summer making bows, but haven't been very good about posting any. I want to share this one, however. It's for a new customer. He really wanted a yew bow, but not the cost. So, he settled for a yew 'look-a-like.' It's more or less a flatbow, without the high crown of yew. It's narrow: 1 1/8" wide, tapering evenly to 3/8" nocks.
Maple backed jatoba ELB, 70" ntn, 48#@28", ebony nocks, ostrich leather grip. It does have a riser, so it doesn't bend full compass. B/W FF string.
It has taken <1/2" of set, and as a result, it does have a bit of recoil. It should improve as it gets shot in more. I've been shooting it inside my shop, and at 12 yards, it's deadly! It's been a bit too cold to shoot it outside, but tomorrow is going to be +16C, so I should be able to put it through it's paces a bit more.

Agreed. I need to get off my butt and post more bows. Just pure laziness! I made a very sweet hickory backed osage flatbow for my wife, and I should post it. She really likes it. Talk about the shoemakers son without shoes! It only took me just about 10 years of bowmaking to get around to making one for my wife! Good grief.

Yup, nice looking bow, has the Yew and ELB look.
Mind you could have stuck some knots on the back ;).
