New Hickory Bow
« on: August 20, 2012, 10:02:28 pm »
Just finished up a hickory bow I started earlier this summer.  It's 47# @ 28, 62" long.  Threw some faux rattlesnake skins on it.  It's a pretty decent shooter.  It most definitely would harvest a deer, which is all I'm really concerned about.  Had some trouble with moisture....lesson learned.  From the full draw pic, you can tell it's not even close to a perfect tiller, but I've been notorious for whip tillering my 1st few, so I'm getting better. :)  I'm learning more about the cosmetics of the bow too.  This is my 3rd complete bow and I continue to learn.  I've got a hickory backed ipe in the works.  Be looking for it in a month or so.  Thanks for all who post on here.  It's been a tremendous help.

I wouldn't say this one is whip tillered.  In fact, it looks pretty dang good!  Are those the 3Rivers fakesnake skins?

Thanks JW.  Actually got the faux skins from rudderbows.  Thought I'd give them a try.  I thought they turned out ok.

Nice job on that one. :)

I appreciate the kind words.  I'm getting a better eye for tillering, but still have a ways to go.  Looking forward to getting it in the woods and see what happens.

Looks good to me, brother! Lot better than the one I just "salvaged"! I need to post pics of that tragedy.

Well, if you can create something like this, you're definitely ready for that hickory backed ipé! Improve your tiller by scraping the midlimbs on your next bows, but other then that, this one looks pretty good to me! Nice back(ing), nice leather handle.

Thanks everyone.  She's still shooting pretty decent.  Having a hard time matching some arrows up for it, but surely we'll get it figured out.  Seems a little sensitive to arrown spine.  Thanks again

I echo everyone else's comments on the tiller, I think you did real well on it. The skins do look good too. I say you got a good shooter there for sure.   Danny
