3 piece takedown

Can you make a three piece takedown that's effiecent without fiberglass, I know rudderbows makes one and it would be nice to have one for car or plane trips since I have to travel in order to hunt

Simple answer.....yes. but dont ask me how to make one cus i never have...but in my opinion i wouldnt try one untill i had quite a bit of bowyering experience under my belt.

Sure its simple!
Just get one of blackhawks bows and saw it in two then make yourself a riser to attach the pieces to!!Have fun !!

PA printed an article I wrote on a 3 piece takedown I built 7 or 8  years ago.  The bow was made from a broken one I had kicking around.

I don't see any advantage of a 3-piece vs. a 2-piece takedown. For a self bow I would go with a sleeve type takedown. I don't think it matters with a laminated bow and for sure the 3-piece bows can be eye candy. The only downside, I used to build the glass 3-piece and they always felt heavy to me.

i guess it makes me very nervous thinking about cutting a bow in half for a 2 piece take down, and i don't get that feeling about the 3 piece. that and they are pretty

I waited until I broke a bow, cut that busted limb off, mated it and a billet to the sleeves, then worked the billet down to match the other limb.  Makes the tillering tricky, but it worked out fine.  Next time I'll take 2 billets and do it.
