Trade Bow - Elm/Walnut (Pic heavy)
« on: July 11, 2012, 11:18:32 am »
Finally finished my trade bow. It's a Red Elm backed Black Walnut. Got the wood from halfeye, who happened to be my bow trade guy last year, so I guess this makes this bow a double trade bow  :P

This bow came in a couple pounds light because I didn't have much thickness to work with. I could have piked it, but it draws very smoothly and shoots very well, so I decided not to.

Here are some photos. I hope my recipient likes it!

Love that bend.

That's a really pretty wood combination, did you stain the elm with anything?

Nice, I like the limb shape, wide near the grip, but slim tips.

Thanks for the compliments guys! I love the wood combination, and both woods are feather light. The bow weighs less than a pound (16 oz.).

Love that bend.

No stain. I rubbed in some boiled linseed oil and then a few coats of clear wiping varnish for the top coat. BLO + varnish has become one of my favorite finishes, it really brings out the beauty of the wood.

Looks mighty serviceable.  If the recipient don't want it, I'll take it!

looks good, shouldn't matter if it comes in a little light if it shoots good and has a good bend that's all that counts ;)
