first successfull attempt at a bow
« on: July 02, 2012, 08:49:22 pm »
this is the second bow I've attempted to make.
the first red oak board bow went down in flames.
hickory board bow laminated riser 50@30 68 in ntn
i need to say thanks to forum members ctt, owlbait and pearl drums for all the help and inspiration and for answering my relentless questions
this bow came off the caul with 2 in of reflex but after 100 or so arrows there is some string follow but the tips stayed reflexed some
braced

limb tips

riser

unbraced

and the money shot
the tiller looked really good to me on the tree
but the angle of the photo makes it look funky
+ the camera girl (my wife) caught me givin her the stink eye

i learned a ton and feel I'm now ready to tackle a stave
thanks all
Kevin

You want who's help? Thats a good looking bow for a first or 10th. You done good with the handle/ fade area. That handle wont pop loose on you.
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.

Thats a wicked axe, wicked arrow, AND a wicked bow! Nice.
"The way of heaven is like the bending of a bow-
the upper part is pressed down,
the lower part is raised up,
the part that has too much is reduced,
the part that has too little is increased."

Great job Kevin. When I saw it hanging in your garage today, I saw how much more work you had done on it. Great finish, way to go.

the first red oak board bow went down in flames.

Maybe this guy IS family!  I'm 1 for 6 in the oak board bow game.

But this one you finished has all the proper earmarks of a shooter!  Good work, cuz.
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.

Good job, K. Nice riser and bend!!

Very nice bow, I remember my first shooter, after a half dozen failures.  Keep at it.
