Yew Flat Bow

Finally got a hold of a piece of dried Yew to make a bow. It is 62" long and will finish up in the low 50's at 28" when shot in. It has diamond back rattlesnake skins with a layer of silk under the skins for added protection. Probably didn't need it but it had 3 vertical cracks in the sap so I went ahead and put the silk on. All of this bow was pretty well traded for here on Primitive. The stave came from Brock Johnson. I traded for the Yew for a pair of fancy Osage Billits. The leather the skins were all traded for with members here. Sorry I can't remember your names but thanks any way. I will get the money shot up soon as I can round up my wife long enough to take some pics. Dean

That's a really pretty bow Dean.  I may have to copy that design.  I have a short yew stave that needs to be a bow.

Thanks every body for the nice replies. Definently different wood to work with than Osage. It seems to be very snappy. I had a hard time getting the string lined up over the handle. The stave was sawed instead of split and the darn thing wanted to twist on me right below the handle on the right side. You can see in the picture there is more sap showing because of the twist. I heated this thing several times to get the string over the handle. Always get a stave that is hand split if you can. You just can't trust a sawed stave. No matter what you do the grain of the wood is the boss. Dean

Very nice :o those skins are very vivid and complete the bow well...i like it very much  ;) how wide is that hunk o yew?
