Little Crepe Myrtle bendy
« on: May 28, 2012, 09:50:35 pm »
The little girl is just over 49" ntn, 44# @ 26", and made from "curly" crepe myrtle. The stave come from Ken 75 and had a sorta gull-wing natural side profile, so I went with that. No heat, no steam, no corrections at all.

Used the hand axe that Thomas H give me, and the coffin bowie that Hickroy Bill give me, the only attempt at "finish sanding was with a petosky stone. Finish is pitch and grease. She shoots real good and gonna make a good huntin bow for when I get "old" >:D

First pics show the curl in the back and belly, the last 3 is the usual. Think I got most of the bend out of her.

Yummy Rich! Thats a sweety pie right there. That might just have taken over first place in the Half Eye rankings I keep for myself.

Nice, Rich. Simple, with nice curves as usual. Looks quick too!

Thanks fellas, It's just a simple stick and is a good weapon. I have noticed that crepe myrtle mostly looks like curly maple a lot but for whatever reason it isn't weak like the figured whitewoods. It's a good huntin range bow, and is realitively flat out to 20 yards or so (with my 500/600 grain huntin poles. I'm startin to get an idea how come the NA's liked the style so much.

Thanks again for the nice words.

Man, I love your bows!  That is the kind I really like - a doggone tool to hunt with.....   What kind of string is that?  It looks primitive too.....  You have a knack for getting all the bend out of a short bow.
