First Bow, New to bowmaking
« on: March 28, 2012, 06:33:03 pm »
Here is a picture of my first bow. Swamp Monkey is an awesome teacher and mentor. It is 66" ntn, 50# @ 26" Hickory. Made ALOT of agonizing trips to the tillering tree but in the end was well worth it!!! Biggest lesson learned was PATIENCE PATIENCE PATIENCE!!! Really enjoying this new hobby/art. Gives a whole new perspective and appreciation to where archery has come from. Looking forward to finishing one for my 12 year old daughter about 50% there and starting on the next, then the next, then the next, so on and so forth.

Nice looking weapon. Well done.
Bowmakers are a little bent, but knappers are just plain flaky.

Yup, she looks good from here. A good teacher can prevent you from filling your wood stove up.

Swamp has a great picture of it on the tiller tree, he is working on getting it to me soon...he is a busy man and hard to get ahold of. I will post some more pics as I get them. I did put a couple coats of Minwax 'Early American' stain on it Sunday evening and going to be putting some coats of linseed on it tonight.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement and comments. I have been looking around on here for a while now and have found nothing but good people offering up a wealth of knowledge and support. Awesome!!! Oh yea, i got 2 bundles of cane drying in the basement.

Now you are cooking with FIRE!
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.

It looks great! Congratulations!  My first bow was hickory too, and I've always enjoyed working with it.
