Very Simple Trapped BBI
« on: March 11, 2012, 02:39:48 pm »
I finally got my hands on a camera to take a couple quick pictures of my first completed BBI. The glue-up was done over a year ago. While tillering I ran into lateral stability issues because of inattention and had to spike from 71" to 65" nock to nock. A couple of months later I put on overlays and tillered to brace. A couple weeks ago I tillered to full draw, sanded and finished her.

She is 65" nock to nock, 23mm (7/8") wide at the handle, 8mm  (5/16") wide at the nocks.  The bamboo back was made by splitting a 15mm (5/8") pole and working with a drawknife and a cabinet scraper. The backing strip is 12mm (1/2") wide and isn't perfectly straight. Draw weight is 50lbs at 28".  Total weight of the bow is 319 grams (11.3 oz).  Glued up with an inch of reflex, she keeps 1/4" of it after unstringing.

Nice slim elegant bow.... Did I miss the draw weight amongst the facts and figures?

A guy could carry that skinny little thing all day without wearing out his arm, don't take much wood to make a bow if you know what you are doing, right?

Wow, excellent tiller, pretty as a rose.

that my friend, is a great looking bow. love the simple lines.

That is the kind of bow you take when you are shooting a 3D course with a bunch of wheel shooters. at the end of the day, let them feel what you have been lugging around compaired to the 5 to 8 POUND anchors. >:D >:D

Geez, and I thought those bicycle bows were made of aluminum, which is supposed to be light weight!   :o

That's a fine job!!
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
