First firing went well and smelled like burn rock go figure.  Looks like the stone got a little color.  I will take a picture in a few minutes of the pile when I get it out.

Is this really a normal plug 110v unit? Not 220v?

Yes Bevan it is a 110 unit prefect for anyone doing heat work on flint.  It worked great and cooked the rock great.  I will have some for you to hit when you get here.  I pick up nice small piece form the creek and never know what color will come from it.   I got two that are going to be yellow and should make nice points.

I've been using a turkey roaster since the move. There nothing wrong with it. It works great, but looks like I have to make 2 batches to your one. I have 4 batches laid out on the table ready to knap. Nice find.

Here is a yellow rock that I picked up from the creek. I need to make a wire basket. So I can fill it to the top.  Tower can that turkey cooker reach 600 degrees?

No around 500 deg. Works great for the local material in New Braunfels.

500 is pretty hot.  I like all the different colors from the material in the creek.  I don't get a range from the quarry.  I think that the flint is taking up iron and other minerals maybe.  I am finding white yellow brown orange pink and grey and yesterday a red one.  All of the quarried stone is mostly pink.  I like the color of Will H stone on his latest point.

Man I am really jealous. That kiln I gave my sister-in-law is 220. and I think I could sit in it. Just to big for what I need/want!

Does quartzite heat treat? That is about the only local knappable we have around here. (I live about 50 miles from 'Spanish Diggings, WY'

When I come in march, you mind cooking some of the flint I got in a trade?

Sure do you know what temp it goes up to.  We could use the heat to warm the shop.
