just wondering how you know how long a bowstring you need. i assume its based on the length of your bow but i was wondering if there's a set ratio of bow length to string length.

Really depends of you are talking about a longbow or a recureve. Also the desired and tuned brace height comes into play.

I keep shortening my tillering string until I get the desired brace height. Then I measure from nock to nock and make a string that length.
