I started preparing the backing for my trade bow.  When a friend told me he was gonna be bass fishing for a fish fry this weekend I asked for the skins.  It'll take some splicing because he does not keep the large fish.  Here are the first 3 sides cleaned, scaled and starting to dry.

That's the way I fillet too, but to maximize the skin's use I wish he'd have kept the skin over the rib bones.

Well after a brain fart and ruining a sweet shooting sassafras bow (the sapwood delaminated from it so maybe it blowing was a good thing, it was probably gonna happen sooner or later), I broke into some yellow wood to get started on number 2.
this is before I got her floor tillered. getting ready to do a bit of heat treat and straightening maybe gently flip the tips. as it is there is 1 1/2" of reflex so I dont think I'll induce any more.
I'll try to keep y'all up on the progress and maybe glean some wisdom from you as well!

Ahhhh Fooey! 1/2" of reflex aint enough to do boo Mark. It will be gone at floor tiller. Add another 2" or so, that way the bow will be flat or slightly relfexed 1000 shots from now. Its a clean looking piece for sure, should make a fine bow! Keep us posted please.

Not to argue with you P.D. but a bow with a little set is a-ok in my book. I think all of us (including me) obsess about maintaining no set and holding reflex I little to much. All my bows with a little set make great shooters.
