Got my HBI longbow drying the third coat of varathane now, so it's almost there. I read in a post here or on TG that when you use alcohol or acetone to degrease ipe, you have to be careful to wipe from the backing to the belly or the colour from the ipe will stain the backing. I tried it on a scrap piece of hickory and that's what happened alright. I like the contrast between the hickory and ipe but the hickory is awfully white if it's going to be used for hunting. So. I took the cloth I'd used for degreasing the ipe with, moistened the most heavily coloured area of it and wiped down the hickory backing with it. It worked great, took the bone whiteness off the hickory but still left a nice contrast. Just thought someone else might like to try this.    Rob
If I knew what I was doing, I'd probably be bored with it, and I wouldn't be here.

Looks real close now turtle. I gave my trade bow 3 weeks for the sinew and hide glue  to dry/cure. Tonite I finish tiller and shoot her a few times! I have been staring at that lovely sinew for almost 21 days now.

It was dang hard Kris, but WELL worth it. Good Lord! ****** best have an extra pair of undies around after that first shot! She is a screamin demon of a bow and its only getting better! All of my 3" plus of reflex came back and most was almost instant as I watched the string tighten right up on the belly. Makes me REAL happy I made two just like it.................daddys gotta new turkey bow curing!

Shoot it 20-30 times and take another peeky. The left is stiff midway, but that can change after some shooting. If it doesnt change give it a few scrapings and see what happens. Tiller is more important than weight in my book.

I agree with pearl drums, shoot it and cheek later. Sometimes you can not get it perfect. For me if it pulls evenly and shoots well with not taking more set in one limb or the other, I would go with it. I try to remember performance and a perfect looking bow are not always the same. Wood is NOT a perfect material. Looks like a nice bow!
