Oak backed oak ELB(ish). PICS
« on: January 06, 2012, 09:28:27 pm »
I guess it's been awhile, I hope I remeber how to speak the language. This bow was inspired by the latest Robin hood movie, so when that first came out in theaters in 2010 is when I started it. I thought it would be a quick project but I realized that the board I bought was too flimsy to be made that thin so unwilling to shorten it I reinforced it with a much stronger strip of red oak making this my first successful wood backing. College and other projects haven't left me much time which is why took so long, though that caused to take extra care with it's construction and tiller(I even put a second coat of finish on it!). It's 66" long and 65#. It's actually a D bow, the riser is pure leather. The decorations are symbols from Robin Hood's armor showing how constellations form images in nature... or something like that. It shoots beautifully, though it's not the fastest bow I've made. There's more I could write but how does it look?

Welcome back to PA, Dakotian. Glad to hear you are in college. Your new bow is well tillered. Full draw is a beautiful arc. Very nice.  8)

Thanks guys! and they're doing good Pat. And that old mulberry bow you sent me is still intact by the way. Unfortunatly, it will probably be a long time before I stop by here again, but that doesn't mean I don't miss it from time to time.

Very nice job on the tiller.  I like the artwork as well!
