We cut enough Hickory for at least 75 potential bows Sat.The tree was 24 in. at the stump and cut 5 75 i. logs to the first limb.Took most of the day but we got it cut,hauled,debarked and sealed
before we quit.Greg,Anthony and me mostly.Had another friend or 2 pitch in a little.I am sore today
as I bet they are.None of our young guys showed up so it was just us old fellows but we still
can do it when we have to.

That is a serious haul of some excellent looking wood.

Ya Jawges it was some very clean Hickory.We usually cut 1 or 2 like that each year.This was
about the biggest and cleanest I have seen at least on the 3/4/5th log.They aren't usually that
good once you get the first 1 or 2 logs.

Yeah, that one looked to be uncommonly straight and true.
I've cut down a few hikrees fer bows , best I've done was 4- 7foot sections , 21" across, pipe straight before the first limb.Least you had some help! Ain't no heavy like wet hikree heavy!

Beautiful Wood Pappy. I hope ya'll have cooler weather for this like we had here this weekend. A few more of those log cutting expeditions, Greg will be able to come out and eat with you guys again.

What an impressive piece of work. I can understand why you guys were sore the other day. But it seems like it was worth it

Hi, No wood like that where I live! From what little tree cutting I've done, I'm impressed that there aren't a lot more people killed or injured felling trees. The things are darn'd heavy. Nice looking staves. Ron

Some thick sapwood on that one. I love the smel emitted when fesh wood is splitting.

Ryan if I knew what kind to cut I will cut you all you want.What you need to do is make a trip to Tn. and hunt some deer/Turkey and pick them and I will be glad to cut them and send them North with you.Opens in Sept. and closes in Jan.

The weather couldn't have been better Saturday temperature wise, we hit it lucky. Hopefully the cooler weather will also allow the moisture to leave the wood initially at a slower rate, and maybe we won't get any checks in the logs. Most of them will eventually need to be split at least in half, and some into thirds...but we got them to a weight us old guys could handle. Would have had to reduce them more if we'd had some younger generation helping that havn't experienced real work!

It was scarey there for a while with Pappy's leg until we realised it wasn't broken. I thought for sure we were looking at an Emergency Room visit.
