     That sounds about right for what I would expect. around 20% difference in density. I think rock elm is a bit heavier than hickory.

 Slippery Elm is hands down the best Elm in my neck of the woods. It bends fairly well,but holds bends great.It is very elastic,heat treats very well,and resists set well.It makes for a fast bow,and the dense wood finishes beautifully. One thing however,Steve,I have never hit your "mass projection weight",when using this wood. JMHO God Bless

Pete, do your bows come in under or overweight?  My search for a good bow wood ended when i made my first red elm bow.  Something in me makes me want to keep trying other woods.
