Reducing Weight on a Shot-In Bow
« on: October 29, 2011, 01:49:35 pm »

I have an osage and hickory LB. Shot very little for a year now. Always unstrung when not in use. It is just a tad too heavy-can I shave/sand off a few pounds without engaging excessive string follow or loss of power? I think that if i take 2 pounds off and rework the handle this bow can be ergonomic for me.

Of course. Simply sanding the belly will usually drop the weight a couple of pounds.

Thanks. I wonder about side-sanding or a scrape off of each edge? PD

i would leave the sides as they are as they will be made to an exact thickness. i think sanding the belly will do the trick.

Sanding the sides can cause some set or string follow even though your lessing the poundage.
Just equally sanding the belly will only decrease the weight.

If you decrease the poundage you decrease the power.
